QUESTIONS REGARDING MY MEDICAL AID

Do I need a referral from doctor/ healthcare provider?

If you would like to claim from your medical aid, you will need a referral from your general practioner or specialist doctor.  If you are referred by a physiotherapist or chiropractor, you will still need a referral from your doctor in order to claim from your medical aid.

If you are not claiming from your medical aid, you do not need a letter from your doctor.  However, as biokineticists do not diagnose medical conditions, we may refer you to your doctor, or specialist doctor or physiotherapist, if we feel the need to, in order to obtain a correct diagnosis.  This allows us to understand your condition better, and therefore prescribe the correct exercises.

I am on a hospital plan with my medical aid.  Will they reimburse me for my biokinetic sessions?

No.  However, if you have a medical savings account with them, you may be able to claim if you have sufficient funds.  You will have to check this with your medical aid.

I am on a comprehensive medical plan with my medical aid.  Will they reimburse me for my biokinetic sessions?

This is dependant on various factors:  Which comprehensive plan you are on; how much of your medical savings you have used thus far; and if you are in your self-payment gap.  You will have to check this with your medical aid.

Do you claim directly from the medical aid for me?

No, we are contracted out of medical aids.  This means you are responsible for paying us upfront, then claiming from your medical aid directly.

How do I go about claiming from my medical aid?

Before you come for your initial consultation, we will give you our practice number, and the procedure codes we use for biokinetics.  You will need to call your medical aid with this information, together with the ICD 10 diagnosis code given by your referring doctor.  Your medical aid will then let you know how many sessions you will be reimbursed for.
